Abraham Lincoln Bandages

Abe Lincoln once said, “All men are created equal. Bandages? Not so much.”

That’s the bit of verbal history that gets swept under the rug. In fact, you won’t hear the line regarding Bandages when you visit Disney’s Hall of Presidents. It’s a shame, too, because they would sell a lot more Abe Lincoln-endorsed bandages that way. The truth of the matter is that Honest Abe knew a lot about what qualified as a good compression bandage, and knowing that he might be breathing his final breath, encouraged Mary Todd to create a bandage donning his likeness, so that he would be able to leave at least ONE important legacy behind, since his life had amounted to so little thus far. Here is the result of that final wish: the Abe Lincoln Bandage, a tribute to the legacy of Abe Lincoln and his quest for sufficient wound care for all. To the kids reading this right now: this story so isn’t true, so don’t go quoting it in your history papers.
